Milapfest at the Philharmonic Hall

26th. July

An absolutely gorgeous day weather-wise, we turned up at the Philharmonic Hall to find that it was the last Milapfest to be held there before moving to St. Georges Hall. The event was smaller than usual with a three piece musical ensemble, violinist and two drummers playing Indian music. No veggie food was available, which was disappointing.

After watching the performance until the interval, we then wandered down into a busy Liverpool centre, Bold Street and the cafe next to "News From Nowhere". This is a totally vegan cafe run by volunteer staff and to gain entrance you have to ring a bell by the doorway. Downstairs inside you find a nice earthy cafe with it's own atmospherics, very friendly staff and a good range of vegan dishes which, so we are told, can change each week depending on who has volunteered for the shift. We were made very welcome by Margaret & Mike who were there on duty. The dishes we tried were spicy tomato & lentil soup and hummus with a salad, both we can recommend, followed by orange & coconut cake, not forgetting a large pot of tea. Lovely, cheap & cheerful. I can recommend a visit to the cafe if you are in the area on a Saturday (12:00 to 5:00pm).

Liverpool at the moment is celebrating it's City Of Culture 2008 and one of the attractions is a multitude of Super Lamb Banana clones, all decorated with different themes and as you can see I have added a couple. (Not many photos on this write up as someone (Me) forgot to charge up the camera.)

So we are not left out, here is the group's logo in a similar theme.
